As I mentioned in my first blog posting, I am a self-taught wire jewelry artist. I have been working with the art form for more than ten years now, so it has evolved into my own style. You will develop your own style as you practice. If you want to learn the art, you really need to learn some basic wire working techniques.
This necklace and earring set were assembled with basic wire wrapped loops of brass. I made the beads with clay and inlaid more brass wire to create the butterfly pendant.
I would recommend that you practice with some inexpensive 20 gauge craft wire or copper wire to start. I will do an article on the types of wire that you can buy in another posting.
You will need:
* 20 gauge head pins (you will learn to make your own later)
* Some beads of your choice
* Round nose pliers
* Chain nose pliers
* Flush Cutters (The video uses nail clippers but I recommend getting a good pair of flush cutters, only to be used on soft metals like copper, silver or gold. Otherwise, you will damage your cutters.)
* Earwires of your choice.
Note: Before you close your wire wrapped loop, add your earwires to make earrings.
